Foodbank Christmas Initiatives
The West Berks Foodbank have produced a slightly different reverse Advent Calendar this year (image below). The aim this time is to help to re-stock their empty shelves. Here the idea is, instead of receiving a gift, you donate a gift of an essential item of food or toiletries. What better way to act out Jesus’ words: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” This is always extremely popular. It can be started any time and runs for 25 days, suggesting a different item every day that you might like to donate to the Foodbank. We ask that donations are taken to the warehouse by Monday 23rd December – the warehouse will be closed over Christmas.
The second initiative is called the 12 days of Christmas. This suggests 12 festive treats that can be donated to make Christmas a little more comfortable and enjoyable for those in need. We ask that these are delivered to the warehouse by Friday 6th December so that they can be included in every parcel that are sent out.
Donations can also be taken to the St Peter’s or All Saints’ collection points in advance of the dates above so that collections/deliveries can be coordinated.
Winter is often the most difficult season for people on a low-income as finances are stretched to cover additional costs such as heating. Hidden behind closed doors, there will be families and individuals who find it difficult to cover these expenses. To ensure the Foodbank can continue to help those facing difficulties during this Christmas and early next year, we need your support.
