Rector’s Update 14/04/2025

Yesterday we marked Palm Sunday – the beginning of the most important week of the Christian year which we now call Holy Week.  In this week we see compassion, betrayal, greed, murder and loss before arriving at Easter Day itself when we celebrate the resurrection. Our Holy Week services try to capture the drama of this week so that we can enter into Jesus’ experience and journey with him.  Will you join us on the three great days of this week - Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Day where there are different services across the Benefice?

We continue to pray for a Team Vicar (house for duty) to join us and help grow the work of the team.  As well as praying individually we are praying together and plan to do so again on on Saturday 3rd May at 9am at St Peter’s.  All are welcome – coffee and croissants are available from 8.50am.

David Sammon has been a faithful member of the Bucklebury Parish for many years, served as a Licensed Lay Minister and is well known across the Benefice. David has now decided that the time has come to move into residential care and is in the process of settling into a Christian Care Home in Harrogate where he has close friends.  It is planned that David will return for a weekend so that we can say our farewells.  He intends to be at the 9.30am service at St Mary’s Bucklebury and 11am service at All Saints Upper Bucklebury on Sunday 18th May and we will follow this with a shared lunch.  All are welcome to come along – if you plan to be at the lunch, please let me know numbers and what food you plan to bring.

Finally, in preparation for the Church Annual Meetings, we are currently renewing our Electoral Rolls.  If you are yet to complete and return your application form, we ask you to do so, ideally before Easter.

I hope to see many of you over the Easter Weekend but if you are going away do have a good time.

Wishing you every blessing for Easter.

Steve
